Our 1st family camping trip.

We took our first family camping trip this past weekend.
And I guess this is technically Sawyer's first vacation - well, we'll call it a mini vacation. I was a little nervous about taking a 5 1/2 month old baby camping in the heat of the summer {and it's HOT} but it all went great and we had an awesome time!

We headed out Friday afternoon. We chose a campground that was only about 40 minutes away in case it was a total disaster we could head home.
Watching us set up Friday afternoon.
I know I've said it a thousand times but he is such a happy baby. And he is pretty go with the flow. Love those curled up baby toes!
Just hanging out Friday afternoon. The heat wasn't too bad -- we were in the shade with fans going and we had a breeze from the lake.
A butterfly landed on Keith's sunglasses -- aren't butterflies good luck?
Our view.
This little boy loved being outside.
He was entralled by nature.
This bright blue sky is what he is so fixed on in the above picture.
Cooper had fun too. He loves being right where we are.
Our dinner Friday night - along with some chips and dip. This is also about the time we realized we forgot the hot dog buns. We improvised with bread.
We had a fire both nights -- just for our viewing pleasure from afar because it was way too hot to get close to it.
There was a full moon.
We did get close enough to the fire to roast our marshmellows for smores!
Saturday morning.
Outside playing Saturday. We just took lots of inside breaks to cool off during the middle of the day when it was the hottest.

Keith and I played lots of dominos. A camping staple for us!
With my buddy ~ in our usual position.
We enjoyed a yummy watermelon Saturday afternoon - a nice cool treat!
Cooper loved the inside breaks too - for cooling off.
Sunday morning...
Just getting home. All smiles from a fun weekend.
It was a great trip. So much fun. It was really nice to just hang out and play and spend time together without a tv or computer...

Harvesting.

Remember our garden?
This is from when we first planted it several months ago...
And then I gave you guys a progress report about a month ago...
well, now it is totally out of control!
Our tomato plants on the left are insane...we can barely contain them. They are so full and thick you can hardly even see them to pick them. And we have more peppers than we can eat!
TONS of banana peppers - we've been eating them every chance we get. They are yummy. And my mother-in-law told us how to jar them to make pepper juice so we'll be doing that too.
Our bell peppers have done really good too. We've used them for fajitas and on salads.
And lots of jalopeno's. We made some bacon wrapped jalopeno's the other night and they were yummy (cut the peppers in half and fill with cream cheese and then wrap with bacon. cook for 1 hour at 350). And we've also used these for salsa and on kabobs.
These are cherry tomatos - we've gotten lucky with these. We've had lots. But unfortunately the bugs keep getting to our big tomatos before they ripen.
This is our harvest from yesterday.
This is probably our third basket full.
And there are more peppers behind these.
Gardening is so rewarding.
But Keith gets all the credit. I can count on one hand how many times I've watered the garden. But I'm enjoying eating everything.

Sawyer's 1st school picture

I think my boy totally drowns out that corny background!
And yes, we bought them!

last week

I was gone all of last week for work. I had to go to Minnesota for a week long training and I thought I was going to die being away from my boys for so long but obviously I survived. But it was terrible - I left at 7:10am on Monday morning and didn't get home until 6:00pm Friday night. I felt like half of my heart was missing! And I was really worried that Saw would forget me or not nurse once I returned but I'm happy to report we are good on both accounts! Yay!

We skyped every night. I actually think this was a little confusing for Saw. He could hear me and would keep looking around the room for me. But I loved getting to see him. And Keith and Cooper even made a few appearances.
{all of these pics were taken with my iphone so the quality isn't good}
Keith did an awesome job of taking care of little man. Not that I had any doubts but single parenting is tough! And I'm pretty sure he was really ready for me to come home. He was sweet enough to send me pictures throughout the day to let me know what they were doing.

This one said "morning mommy". This one said "play time".
I was able to venture out one night so of course I headed straight to the Mall of America.
It was awesome! There was a whole theme park inside. I knew it had a roller coaster in it but I wasn't prepared for this many rides. There were probably 12 rides. And an aquarium and putt putt. And 4 levels of stores. And the stores hit both ends of the spectrum...I'm talking Marshalls and As Seen on TV to Betsy Johnson and Nordstrom.
I only had a couple of hours but I did manage to walk through one layer of stores and ride a couple of rides. I almost passed up the rides but my Mom talked me into it. I kind of felt like a loser riding by myself and seeing as how I was 15 years older than the average rider but I thought who cares ~ and I'm glad I did. They were fun!

This is a shot of Minneapolis from the rear view. I was heading to the airport and couldn't get out of there fast enough.
I don't have any pictures to share from the weekend. I don't think I put Saw down long enough to even pick up a camera. But I've never been so happy to be home and I actually enjoyed those middle of the night feedings -- yes, they are still happening!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my Dad's birthday. My Dad is one of my favorite people. He has the kindest heart is one of the most generous people I know! He is an awesome Dad and a great friend. He has always been there for all of us -- no matter what or when. And we are better off for being able to call him our Dad! I miss him lots and love him so much!

Dad - I hope you have an awesome birthday! I love you!

pictures from last week

We had a great week last week spending time with our family - my dad, Kathy and her parents, Ms. E and Mr. Joe came to visit. As I've said before we love visitors and we've been blessed with having so many people come out and see us. I jokingly say that's what happens when you have a baby -- and this is partly true. But we are thankful for every minute we get to spend with our family and for the time they are able to spend with Sawyer. He loved having lots of attention and some many helping hands loving on him!
Ms. E spoiled us with some great cooking - It was really nice having several home cooked meals...and not having to do any of the work. Ha! It was the most action our kitchen has seen in a while!

Here are some pictures of our week:
Cooper even got a little more attention than usual.

They kept Sawyer a couple of days while we worked and look what he made me with their help! Isn't he the sweetest. This is adorable!!

This is one of Popsy's favorite things to do with his grandkids - and they love it!

Saw was even sweet enough to get me and Popsy a birthday cake...he may have had a little help from Daddy.
It was a great week!
Dad, Kathy, Ms. E & Mr. Joe - thanks for a great week. We can't wait to see you all again!
