full, content heart

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We were so blessed  to be able spend Thanksgiving this year back home with our families.  The boys did so awesome during the long drive and it was good for my soul to see them so loved on by all my favorite people.

Although it is nice to have a day dedicated to giving thanks I am so richly blessed and try to live a life of thanksgiving.  I was a few minutes late to the dinner table on Thursday because I was making plates and taking trips to the potty and blowing on food to cool it down and getting kids situated, etc.  But I thought to myself how truly blessed I am.  I know the day will come all too soon when my children will no longer need my help for any of that.  The joy I get from mothering is like none other.  Thank you God for this life!

Our short 3 day visit was a whirlwind but so, so good.  In the 3 days we were home we spent lots of time playing outside, ate way too much, the boys took a quick trip to the zoo while Keith and I hit up an antique mall, took naps, pow pow'd everything we saw (Sawyer is in a phase), grabbed a night cap with my brother and Sarah (rare for me these days!), the boys took bubble baths with their cousins and even squeezed in a visit to see Santa.

I am so thankful for my camera.  I get such joy out of photographing the people I love and preserving wonderful memories for myself and my family.

Thanks to my sweet friend Whit for the boys adorable idian owl shirts!!

I am full, content and so happy.  So ready for the next month, the traditions, the parties, the cozy nights at home.  Even though we were exhausted after arriving home Sunday night, Keith and I (and Sawyer) climbed in the attic to bring down all the Christmas decorations.  We started decorating last night.
Bring it on, December!

Thanksgiving crafting...

You still have a few days left to get in a quick little craft with your kiddies.

Turkey apples inspired from here....

Sawyer loved it.  And got a little overzealous with his "feathers".  Graham tired out pretty quickly....he's a little young to be handling toothpicks and he kept eating all his stuff.

And teacher, neighbor, church teachers, etc. gift - idea and printables from here.

We are hitting the road early tomorrow morning to head back to Birmingham for a family filled Thanksgiving.  We are looking forward to it....well, not really the drive but I'm sure it will be worth it!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Curio Cabinet Makeover

My sweet Momo and Pop bought us this curio right after we were married and living in our first home in Atlanta.  So, it is very special to me.  But I've been itching for a change.  I knew I could never get rid of it because it holds too much sentimental value.  So, that left one thing...painting it.

I LOVE the way it turned out and smile every time I walk by it.  And Keith even admitted it looks great.  And he was very much against painting it!

Here it is before.

I basically followed this tutorial.

all primed.
{Saw helped me tape off the mirror...hence all the million pieces of green tape.  I was just happy to have a helper!}

and painted

We moved it inside to finish the last step.  Mostly because the temperature dropped dramatically.  And Keith went out of town and I wanted to finish it and set it back up.

All finished.

Love how it turned out.  It's amazing what a little bit of paint can do.

bedtime routine

I meant to write a post Monday and then Tuesday and well, here it is Wednesday.  Keith's been out of town so I haven't had a spare moment or a spare hand for that matter.  And I recently mentioned slowing down a little to really enjoy this time of year....and I'm doing that.  And some weeks that may mean less blogging and I'm okay with that!

Recently, I forced asked Keith to capture the night time ritual that Sawyer and I have seamlessly worked ourselves into.  Sawyer always wants me to lay with him and read him a book, then sings songs, and then say our prayers. Which obviously I love doing.  And this kid is so dang smart.  I'm amazed everyday at all he knows...colors, numbers, shapes, opposites, letters, songs, etc.  He says the most hilarious stuff.

This is about the only time Sawyer still truly wants me.  99% of the time he wants his daddy.  And I'm okay with that.....I know little boys need their daddy to learn from and Sawyer (and Graham) is blessed to have such a great one.  But thank you God for little brother who still prefers me or I may be crying in a corner somewhere.  Ha!

He loves his books.  And he pretty much reads them to me because he has his favorites memorized.

christmas village

Graham and I headed home Thursday morning so I could attend Christmas Village with my mom and sister. If you've read my blog for a while you know that is a special day for me and I haven't missed it the past 7 years.  And I was very thankful it worked out where I could go this year.

I decided to take Graham since he still flys for free.  And Sawyer and Keith had a boys weekend at home.

Gra did awesome flying  both ways.  And took a good stroller nap during our lay over in Dallas.

Friday morning all ready to go.  We make matching shirts every year.  Just part of our tradition.  We did miss Sarah this year.

Another part of our tradition is meeting my cute Granddad for breakfast.  I'm so thankful we were able to visit with him for a bit.

We had a great day...shopping, laughing and getting lots of creative ideas.
My Dad and Kathy kept Graham for me and he was able to visit with some great grandparents too.

And Saturday morning we stopped by to visit Whit and her boys and see their beautiful new house.  It was so nice sipping coffee and just hanging out catching up with her while the boys played.  I was so sad Sawyer wasn't there to play with his buddy Fearing.  But hopefully we'll see them again very soon!

Graham and Finn

And that afternoon I got to visit my sweet friend and new mommy, Amanda, and love on little Hollis.  Amanda looks great and her and Mitch are such precious parents.  I'm so happy for them.  And Hollis is so precious and snugly.  Man, I was in heaven holding that baby girl!

And topped off the trip with a yummy meal with my mom and Bob and the Bolands.

We left really early Sunday morning to head back home.
It was nice to get back to the other half of my boys.
